SINGAPORE – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on March 27 extended his congratulations to Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who was sworn in the same day.
Mr Shah became the Himalayan nation’s prime minister after his three-year-old Rastriya Swantantra Party won 182 seats in the 275-member House of Representatives in the March 5 elections, the first vote since deadly anti-corruption protests toppled the government in 2025.
PM Wong, who is also Finance Minister, in a letter conveyed his warmest congratulations to Mr Shah on his election as prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, as well as his decisive victory in the House of Representatives elections in March.
PM Wong said: “The strong mandate that you and your party have received from the people of Nepal reflects their confidence in your leadership.
“Singapore and Nepal share a warm and friendly relationship underpinned by close people-to-people ties and good cooperation at multilateral fora.”
He added that he looks forward to working with Mr Shah to further deepen the warm ties between the countries, and wished him good health and every success in his new role.
